Building on Egypt’s National Strategy 2030 for sustainable development, the Water Knowledge
Project has successfully completed its journey, significantly contributing to the sustainable
management of water resources and promoting a shared vision for water governance in Egypt and
the wider region.
Throughout the project, a comprehensive capacity development program addressed the technical,
environmental, institutional, and socioeconomic aspects of water resource planning and
management. By enhancing the capabilities of key institutions such as the Ministry of Water
Resources and Irrigation (MWRI) and establishing Egypt as a hub for regional water training services,
the project has created a strong foundation for the future. This foundation supports Egyptian
officials, along with those from Arab and African nations, in advancing water governance and
resilience in the face of growing environmental challenges.
By bringing together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders, this session aims to lay the
groundwork for the next phase of the Water Knowledge Project. It will ensure that the momentum
created during the first phase is carried forward, with an expanded scope and enhanced impact,
contributing to the sustainable governance of water resources in Egypt and across the region.
