Supporting Water Security in Africa with the Peaceful Application of Nuclear Science and Technology

The Sustained Dialogue on Peaceful Uses (SDPU) aims to expand the conversation on peaceful uses of nuclear science and identify opportunities for using nuclear technology in pursuit of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. With a participant-driven approach, the program brings together diverse stakeholders to foster new relationships so that, as a global community, we can find ways for nuclear science and technology to most effectively serve our shared interest of sustainable development while identifying and addressing barriers to access. Organized by CRDF Global, in partnership with Morocco’s National Center for Nuclear Energy, Science, and Technology (CNESTEN), this 1.5-hour side event at Cairo Water Week will feature an expert panel discussion on the role of nuclear science, notably isotope hydrology, in informing water resource management in relation to UN SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation. The event will also feature a fire-side chat with representatives from CNESTEN and Morocco’s Ministry of Equipment and Water to explore how CNESTEN has successfully advanced the use of isotope hydrology and integrated this data into decision -making processes to address water security challenges.
