Adaptation Costing for Mobilizing Climate Finance for Water

The Arab Initiative for Mobilizing Climate Finance for Water is a Water Action Agenda commitment launched by ESCWA, LAS, GCF, IsDB, FAO and Sweden in collaboration with ACSAD and AFESD, that is supported by the Arab Ministerial Water Council and Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for the Environment. The initiative advocates for improved adaptation costing to demonstrate the benefits and savings generated by water and water-related projects under projected climate change scenarios. Increased capacity to develop costed, bankable and affordable project pipelines help to mobilize climate finance. The workshop will train water and agricultural sectors representatives on tools and methods for assessing and projecting adaptation costs, which can be used to inform the preparations of the next generation of nationally determined contributions (NDCs), which are to be submitted in early 2025, and adaptation commitments at different scales of analysis. The initiative partners (ESCWA, GCF, IsDB, FAO, LAS, AFESD, ACSAD and the Government of Sweden) will deliver training on how to strengthen adaptation costing to better mobilize climate finance for water in the Arab region. Technical powerpoint presentations and an expert panel will be delivered and complemented by interactive discussions and exchange of lessons learned.
