Institutionalization of WEFE Nexus Hub for MENA

The Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus offers a holistic framework to address the interdependencies between critical resources and ecosystems, emphasizing sustainable resource management in the face of growing challenges such as climate change, population growth, and regional conflicts. While the MENA region is one of the most resource-scarce regions globally, it is also witnessing increasing recognition of the WEFE Nexus approach to ensure efficient and sustainable use of natural resources. The Inter-Islamic Network on Water Resources Development and Management (INWRDAM), Jordanian Ministry of Water and Irrigation, and Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation are jointly organizing a high-level session on “institutionalizing the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus Hub across the MENA region” at Cairo Water Week. This session will showcase the integration of the WEFE Nexus approach into national frameworks, particularly in MENA, highlighting strategies for cross-sectoral collaboration and sustainable resource management. Attendees will gain valuable insights into the progress and impact of the WEFE Nexus Hub, with discussions on scaling up this approach in other countries. The event will bring together policymakers, sector professionals, and regional stakeholders to explore best practices and enhance regional cooperation and joining the WEFE Community through registering to the Hub.
