9AWW: Achieving sustainable wastewater management and sanitation provision in Africa
The session will focus on Africa and will discuss the role and importance of sustainable wastewater management and sanitation provision.
The session will gather key players such as international organizations, research institutes and governmental institutions to showcase tools, share experiences from recent projects, exchange information and discuss how to scale up solutions to tackle wastewater pollution and lack of sanitation in Africa.
It will be a great opportunity to learn about financing mechanisms for wastewater and sanitation, and it will also provide information on emerging topics such as wastewater surveillance for the environment and public health using the One Health approach. The event will also shed light on the importance of wastewater as a resource to address challenges such as job creation, food and energy security, and climate change mitigation.
Finally, the session will be an opportunity for the audience to learn about the key role that sustainable wastewater management and sanitation provision play in achieving the 2030 Agenda and its SDGs, and other relevant international objectives such as the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), the Global Framework on Chemicals targets, and the Paris Agreement's adaptation and mitigation goals.
