9AWW: Implementation of Early Warning Systems in Africa
Early warning systems are a necessity to face the effects of climate change who often result in more frequent and intense extreme weather events, impacting adversely the lives of people and socio-economic developments causing related losses and damages.
According to the AfDB, as of the beginning of 2023, the African continent has reported a record numbers of fatalities due to events caused by climate change such as rising temperatures, persistent and prolonged droughts, catastrophic floods, destructive cyclones and landslides. Mounting evidence shows that Africa is the most vulnerable continent to the adverse impacts of climate change.
