Women’s Leadership in Water Governance for Resilient Water Futures in the Middle East

As climate change intensifies water scarcity, women’s knowledge and leadership are indispensable to water resilience. Although some progress has been made towards gender equality, women's contributions to water resilience continue to be constrained by structural and cultural forms of discrimination that hinder their full participation in water governance. This workshop will serve as a platform to explore the crucial role women play in water resilience in the Middle East, while also highlighting their unique knowledge and perspectives. It will identify the challenges and opportunities that hinder or promote women's participation and leadership in water governance. Through integrating lived experiences and scientific perspectives, this event aims to foster greater inclusion of women ‘s voices in water governance; promote the development of frameworks that place greater value on women’s knowledge and skills; and provide opportunities for networking among women in the water sector. The event will bring together water scientists, gender specialists, government representatives, and local community leaders committed to addressing water scarcity and eliminating gender disparity in the water sector. Participants will have the opportunity to share stories, explore tangible solutions for promoting women into leadership roles, and strengthen partnerships to achieve the goals of 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
