The Joint Cooperation in Applied Research Programme – Water (JCAR) is a collaborative initiative between Egypt and the Netherlands focused on sustainable water management. It brings together expertise from Egyptian institutions such as the National Water Research Center (NWRC) and the Soil, Water, and Environment Research Institute (SWERI), alongside Dutch partners including Deltares and Wageningen University & Research (WUR).
On October 15, 2025, during Cairo Water Week, JCAR will host its annual JCAR Day. This year’s event is especially significant as it celebrates 50 years of Egypt-Netherlands cooperation in water management. The first session will honor this partnership, featuring speeches from government representatives and recognizing the achievements of JCAR and its team.
The second session will focus on “JCAR Pillar I: Preparing for Future Water Challenges,” highlighting JCAR’s role in strategic policy development, integrated planning, and foresight that support Egypt’s resilience to climate and water demand pressures.
The third session will look ahead, reaffirming both countries’ commitment to continued collaboration. In light of evolving national water policies like “Irrigation Systems 2.0,” the event will include a working session where experts and stakeholders co-design future pathways for water sustainability and innovation.
Join us in shaping the next chapter of water cooperation.
