Water Resilience Tracker

Water insecurity in North Africa and the Middle East is intensifying due to climate variability, population growth, urbanization, and complex socio-political dynamics. These pressures are straining already fragile water systems, making resilience a critical priority. The Water Resilience Tracker offers a strategic tool for countries to self-assess and strengthen their water systems by embedding resilience principles into national climate planning. It helps translate broad strategies into localized, actionable interventions. The MENA region faces common water challenges, worsened by climate change and a lack of integration between data, governance, and sectoral planning. This fragmentation hampers coordinated and forward-looking responses. The Tracker addresses this by promoting systemic, inclusive, and data-informed decision-making across scales. This session highlights practical applications in Morocco and Egypt. In Morocco, Phase I focused on policy assessment, while Egypt advanced to Phase II, conducting deep dives to mainstream resilience into planning. These examples illustrate how the Tracker supports countries in building adaptive, robust water systems tailored to their unique contexts.
