Policy Perspectives for Safe Reuse of Treated Wastewater in Agriculture: Insights & lesson learned from MENA Region
This session will present key outcomes and lessons learned from the policy dialogues conducted under the SafeAgroMENA Project in Egypt and Jordan during 2024 and 2025. The dialogues brought together stakeholders from government, academia, NGOs, the industrial sector, and the private sector to discuss enabling conditions, regulatory frameworks, and practical barriers for the safe and productive reuse of treated wastewater in irrigated agriculture with special focus on emerging contaminant residues in the reuse supply chain (pharmaceuticals and pesticides). The session will highlight shared challenges, country-specific insights, and actionable policy recommendations aimed at improving water security and agricultural resilience in the MENA region.
The session will also explore how multi-stakeholder dialogue can inform inclusive policy development and support sustainable and climate-resilient water reuse practices aligned with national strategies and SDG targets.
