The University's Role in Advancing Research and Innovation in the Water Sector

Water scarcity, climate change impacts, and the increasing demand for sustainable management of water resources represent urgent challenges for Egypt and the wider region. Universities play a critical role in driving innovation, knowledge generation, and capacity building to address these challenges. The British University in Egypt (BUE), since its establishment in 2005, has positioned itself as a hub for excellence in higher education, research, and international collaboration. With a strong British academic partnership model, BUE provides high-quality programs across disciplines, fostering innovation and applied research that contribute directly to national and regional development priorities. BUE is home to multiple faculties and research centers that contribute to addressing Egypt’s most pressing challenges, including those in water, environment, energy, and sustainable development. The University’s research and development agenda emphasizes interdisciplinary solutions, policy-relevant outputs, and partnerships with government, industry, and international development agencies. This session during Cairo Water Week 2025 will showcase BUE’s contributions to the water sector, highlight ongoing research, and explore future opportunities for collaboration with Egyptian universities, ministries, industry partners, and development organizations.
