Dr. Vinay Nangia is Research Program Leader - Soil, Water, and Agronomy at ICARDA, a visiting professor at Tottori University in Japan and an adjunct faculty at Texas A&M University. Dr. Nangia has a Ph.D. degree in Water Resources Science and two master’s degrees - first in Biosystems & Agricultural Engineering and the second in Geographic Information Science – all from the University of Minnesota, USA. His leadership and team building skills have helped solve complex challenges to water resource management posed by climate change. His work has been supported by US$ 20 million of grant support from various donors such as the AFESD, BMGF, FAO, GIZ, IFAD, OFID, USAID, World Bank and bilateral funding from governments of China, Egypt, GCC countries, Iran, India and Morocco. Dr. Nangia has published over 300 publications including over 70 peer reviewed scientific articles in high impact journals and 40 book chapter/conference proceedings.

Dr. Mohie El Din Omar is a Research Associate - Soil, Water, and Agronomy Team at ICARDA. He earned his Doctor of Engineering Science (Dr.-Ing.) in Irrigation and Hydraulics from Department of Hydrosystems Modelling and Water Resources Management, Technische Universitaet Berlin (TU Berlin), Germany, Master of Science in Water Resources Management from Lüneburg University, Germany, Diploma in Water Resources and Hydrology from Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, Egypt, and B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, Egypt. Previously, he occupied several positions as Associate Professor, Researcher, Lecturer, Project Manager, and Consultant at the National Water Research Center in Egypt, Faculty of African Graduate Studies at Cairo University, UNESCO-IHP, GIZ, UNESCO-IHE, Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research in Germany, Technische Universitaet Berlin in Germany, Modern University for Technology and Information in Egypt, National Water Resources Plan for Egypt Project, Planning Sector of MWRI-Egypt.

Walid Hakiki has been working in the field of water resources planning and management for more than 30 years. He participated in developing policies, strategies and plans for water sector in Egypt since 1998. He has been working in a regional context in the Nile Basin region, the Arab region and in the Mediterranean region. He served in many positions within the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation including, Director of the National Water Resources Plan Project, Director of Institutional Reform Unit, Head of Central Dept. for Water Resources and Uses, and Head of Central Dept. of Research and Studies. Mr. Hakiki worked as a consultant for a number of regional and international institutions. He also worked as the spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation. He is currently the Head of the Planning Sector at the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, and the Executive Director of the Cairo Water Week Permanent Secretariat.

Dr. Ajit Govind is a broadly trained Environmental Physicist interested in studying various biophysical interactions on the Earth’s surface. Currently, he is working as ICARDA Climatologist based in Egypt. He is also a senior scientist at the French National Institute of Agricultural Research (INRA). He has worked in areas such as (1) Boundary-Layer Meteorology, (2) Ecohydrological modeling of Carbon and Water cycles (3) Physics of Remote sensing in Optical, Thermal, Microwave, and Multiangular domains, (4) Canopy Radiative Transfer Modeling and (5) Soil Physics. He has previously worked in [1] Canada (in the Canadian Carbon Program and FluxnetCanada), [2] USA (in AmeriFlux and North American Carbon Program), [3] France (ICOS, INRA), and [5] India (University of Kerala). He has developed two spatially explicit numerical models that can simulate terrestrial Carbon, Water, Nitrogen and Energy cycles in a coupled manner

He has a Doctor of Philosophy in Geoscience at University of Southern California. His research focuses on on the investigation of groundwater dynamics and structural control on groundwater flow, water quality, landscape evolution, and paleoclimate records in desert environments and on Mars. He is interested in analyzing hydrogeomorphic parameters of different landforms and investigating geological and structural settings, chemical and isotopic composition, and ages of fossil groundwaters and Quaternary deposits (tufa, calcite veins, terraces) to examine their origin and evolution.

Senior Research Assistant - Soil, Water, and Agronomy at ICARDA. She received her Ph.D. in Water Resources Management from Department of Bio Systems Engineering, Arid Land Agricultural Research Institute (ALARI), Ain Shams University in 2022 and MSc in Irrigation Water Management from Ain Shams University, Egypt in 2016. Her PhD, MSc, and projects at ICARDA focused on improving sustainability of water resources and intensifying and diversifying farming systems. Climate-Smart agricultural projects in Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Lebanon and Tunisia through field measurements of actual crop Evapotranspiration for Remote sensing (RS-ET) validation in NENA region.
